What is a Telegram boost?
Boosts arrived in September 2023 alongside channel stories, as a way for Premium users to back a channel they like. The more boosts a channel collects, the higher its level: in Telegram's own words, channels level up as they gain boosts, and each level lets them post one more story per day.
Where boosts come from
Each Telegram Premium subscription carries four boosts the user can assign to any channel. Non-Premium users have no boosts at all.
Gifting Premium
Telegram grants a channel three boosts for every Premium subscription its admin gifts to someone else.
Giveaways
In a giveaway, every Premium subscription given away delivers all four of its boosts straight to that channel.

A boost is not locked to a channel
Many guides claim a boost sticks to its channel forever once given. Telegram's own announcement says the opposite: boosts stay on the channel unless users decide to move them elsewhere. The API documentation describes the same reassignment, with one condition — a slot cannot be pointed at a different channel until its cooldown has expired.
Boost levels and what they unlock
Telegram publishes a complete ten-level table in its Premium FAQ. The first two columns scale with the level: each one adds a story per day and a custom reaction. Channel name colours stay at seven across every level and so are left out of the table below.

Perks are cumulative; the last column shows only what is added at that level.
How many boosts does a level take?
Telegram does not publish it. In the API documentation both the maximum level and each level's threshold are server-side configuration values, not constants stated in the user-facing guide. Rules of thumb like "one boost per 250 members" or "0.4% of subscribers" are community estimates rather than official figures, and they do not hold uniformly across channel sizes.
The accurate route is to open your own channel's ?boost link: that page states exactly how many boosts the channel needs for its next level. It is computed for your channel, which makes it worth more than any external estimate.
Where to find the boost link
From Channel Info → Statistics → Boosts an admin gets a link shaped like t.me/ChannelName?boost and posts it in the channel. Opening that link shows the current standing and the distance to the next level.
How to get boosts
- Take the ?boost link from Channel Info → Statistics → Boosts and post it in the channel; that same page shows how many boosts remain until the next level.
- Ask Premium members periodically and politely, not with a daily repeat post.
- If you are a Premium subscriber yourself, gifting Premium to others brings your channel three boosts per gift.
- A Premium giveaway is Telegram's own sanctioned route: every subscription given away hands the channel four boosts.
- Make something people want to support — Telegram offers no official way to buy boosts directly.
Because boosts come only from Premium, knowing who actually subscribes to Premium tells you directly whom it is worth asking.
Real boosts versus bought members
Some guides treat buying members and boosting as the same thing. They are unrelated: only Premium votes count as boosts, and inflating the subscriber count does nothing to the channel level — while wrecking its views-per-subscriber ratio.
